Dear Author,

Hi, and thank you so much for offering something in my requests! I am so sorry for being three weeks late with this. The time I’d set aside for this when signing up had to go to something else, and I spent most of December sick. Let me reassure you that I would be delighted with anything based on my signup alone; this letter is just additional information that I hoped to provide earlier. It’s here now, in case you might want the option to look at it.

All my requests are for fanfiction.

What follows is a likes section larger than I could fit in the signup, in bullet points, the DNWs from my signup in bullet points after it, and then fandom sections in which there are feelings about how time travel can relate to my requested characters/ships.

I use Windows 7 and Apple mobile devices. Most of my experience is with choice games--for example, like Alabaster, The Book of Guenevere, Affairs of the Court, visual novels like Oxenfree and Cinders, dating sims like Long Live the Queen and Magical Diary , and paper books where you turn to a page for every choice--but I’d be delighted with a parser game too. Puzzles, mazes, and timers aren’t a strength of mine, so I would enjoy a walkthrough if those are present.

Time Travel Works Like "The Constant" episode of LOST
Character is unstuck from time
Time Loop/Groundhog Day - Both Characters Stuck in Loop
Time Loop Deleting Characters/Events Each Cycle
Time Loop - Russian Doll AU

I enjoy the sense of how these two seem to both exist as a part of the universe but also live with each other in their own world, and time travel/time loops making that a little more literal would be interesting! Especially with how those things can explore character/relationships, and the issues they have in the movies with the impact of Vulcan’s destruction.

For those not familiar with the canons in these freeform tags, a brief (and spoiler-filled) summary for each:

Time Loop/Groundhog Day - Both Characters Stuck in Loop

The protagonist, on an assignment he resents, is stuck in a town he has contempt for. As the time loop goes on, he investigates it, indulges in the lack of consequences for his actions, tries to use it to get to know and seduce a woman—which fails—attempts suicide, and eventually transforms himself and becomes capable of making real connections with people, including the aforementioned woman, this ending the loop.

Time Loop - Russian Doll AU

This is a show in which the two main characters die repeatedly, eventually discover each other, and endure the time loop, which gradually deletes things from the original timeline, until they come together to help each other live the lives they had.

Time Travel Works Like "The Constant" episode of LOST

“The Constant” is the fifth episode of the fourth season of Lost, in which a character, Desmond, goes through turbulence and experiences his consciousness traveling back and forth between eight years ago and the present. When he comes back to the present, he has no memory of the eight years after the time he traveled back to in the past. Upon realizing that he’s in a time warp, he also learns that, to avoid death from a brain aneurysm as a result, he needs a constant—something or someone present in both times who can keep his mind stable. He chooses someone in the past and makes contact with her in the present, which stops the time travel.

What really lingers with me about this one is the “constant” part; I’d be happy if you did something different from what’s described above, while keeping that part.

All of these relationships have their tensions and baggage and different kinds of betrayal, but also intensity of feeling. One of the things I love about time travel and time loops is how those things can be used to look at characters and their relationships, how they change or don’t change, what they can learn or not learn, and the people they can be. I’d love something that explores that, whether using the canonical methods of time travel or something else.

These two seem to have an easy, companionable bond in the context of their time on the ship, but it’s another thing for them to be genuinely stuck together in a way no one else is, and need to primarily rely on each other to get through it, however long—and with time travel/loops, long can be very long—it takes. I also think something fun could be done with communicating across time and Uhura being a communications officer, and/or the language of music, which they can share even without a universal translator.

With the dark side versions of these characters, bound to be more guarded and suspicious than their counterparts, I think it would be really interesting to put them in a situation where they’re both stuck with each other, isolated together in a way that’s totally different from the isolation of living in a universe where everyone works against everyone else.

Time travel via magical locale
Time travel due to magical artifact breaking
Time Travel due to a Magical Artefact
Time Travel due to a Magical Curse
Time Travel Through Being Under a Cursed/Magical/Mystical Sleep (As in Sleeping Beauty)
Time Travel Through Being Frozen (As in Futurama or Captain America)

I love all these characters and I just think they could have fun, providing good angst, fluff, or adventure. I feel like Buffy and Michael share a sense of responsibility for everything around that is both heroic and impossible, they both have a really obvious warmth and charisma they share with Kirk; meanwhile Buffy and Spock share indulgence in banter, the struggle of feeling they have a dual nature, and that they both died and came back. Also, Buffy has been shown to connect with and love people who are reserved with a great deal of feeling, and be reserved herself even if it’s not always apparent, while Spock has a subtle warmth and loves people who are open and different from him. All of these characters can be very empathetic. Sunnydale could be in Star Trek’s past or the past of an alternate Earth. Time travel in either direction would be great with me.

Note: I’d be happy with the Spock I requested being from any of his onscreen appearances, from the young one in Disco to the older one in AOS, and I’d be happy with this Kirk being the one from TOS or the one who met Picard.

Time Travel Through the Force

Time Travel Via A Spaceship Flying Through A Wormhole
Communicating Across Time

I’d be into a scenario in which one canon is in the other’s past, or one in which the universes are distantly related because something happened really far back to make them separate. Mostly I just love these characters and their complex relationships to their cultures and their sense of themselves. Ahsoka leaves the Jedi as an institution and doesn’t seem to feel she can call herself one, but she is one in how she has internalized her Jedi learning and how she chooses to live. Michael and Spock, being a human who is culturally Vulcan and a half Vulcan, respectively, struggle with feelings of inadequacy in being worthy of their culture, learn to reach out to people who are different from it and outside it, and still internalize it and respect it. Like they have these paths of understanding and honoring themselves and what informs them, and they are such extraordinary people. Also, the differences and similarities between Jedi and Vulcans are interesting, with the shared emphasis on restraint and attaining serenity, but the Jedi relying on intuition/feeling/the sense of their sense of Force, and the Vulcans relying on scientific inquiry.

Note: I’d be happy with the Spock I requested being from any of his onscreen appearances, from the young one in Disco to the older one in AOS, and I’d be happy with Ahsoka from all her onscreen appearances as well.

Given this canon’s focus on trauma and how it can be part of you and extend to others, how a person can be “stuck” in it, and identify with it or experience life’s possibilities as bound by it, I think time travel, time loops, and alternate dimensions could provide interesting looks at these characters. They could be stuck and relive their pain, or relate to who they were/will be in a more literal way, or see who they might have been, or could still be.

I love Vic and all her struggles throughout both seasons; when she tries to get out of the dead end she’s afraid of being stuck in, and when she feels there’s no escape, that she herself is damaged beyond repair and her life will be bound up in all the suffering she’s endured, but chooses to try anyway, not just for the immediate purpose of saving her son, but so they can both live better afterwards in their family with Lou.

She and the characters I’ve requested her with use self-destructive coping methods in response to their pain, Vic and Maggie with the more obvious alcohol and drugs, Charlie with the less obvious—particularly for him—method of giving up on the world altogether except as a feeding ground, with rationalizations so self-righteous he cannot see through them. They’re isolated, even when they have people trying to reach them, and in canon they end up in different places: Maggie snaps Vic out of her trance and finally saves her from Charlie in this way, in keeping with how they fight for each other throughout the show, but Vic’s way of recovering afterward and being present is to forsake her gift entirely, while Maggie has just discovered a way to manage hers that she feels she can control, and chooses a path that is for now alone, and Charlie doubled down on his choices every time he was presented a chance to choose differently, even to the point of abandoning Millie to the outside world in favor of his pursuit of Vic.

I feel like with time travel, there’s so much more opportunity for self-reflection, self-knowledge and understanding, and change.

I only requested two ships for Vic, but I also requested her separately, so you’re welcome to focus on her other relationships. I’d be delighted.

For those not familiar with the canons in these freeform tags, a brief (and spoiler-filled) summary for each:

Time Loop - Happy Death Day AU

This is a movie in which the protagonist is stuck reliving the day she dies, getting weaker each time with the aftermath of so many mortal injuries piling up, until she stops the killer for good.

DNW Exceptions and Clarifications:

I DNW gore and body horror, but I am fine with canon-typical gore and body horror in a gift, though when it comes to Vic I would rather the physical violence and injury not be more extreme or graphic than what happened to her in canon.

I DNW "focus on requested characters in unrequested/unprompted ships," but for this fandom I would be happy with as much as you want to include with regard to Vic's three canon ships.

I DNW noncon and rape happening in the gift, along with more instances of it happening than the canon has, but I am fine with canon-typical danger of rape and assault, and with the canon instances being referenced/portrayed in the fic with as much detail as you want to write if writing takes you in that direction.

I DNW unrequited love, but I am fine with the canon unrequited love/attraction Charlie has for Vic. (To be clear, I am also fine with it becoming requited in a fic.)

I DNW sex without attraction, but I am fine with it in the context of Vic/Charlie and his canonical unrequited attraction, and I am also good with her enjoying the sex physically even without feeling attraction to him. (To be clear, I am also fine with it becoming requited in a fic.)

I DNW "stories where nobody really cares about the woman/women in the ship," but if you do Vic/Charlie I am fine with the canon self-prioritization Charlie has going on even when he thinks of himself as giving people nice things, and I do register his hatred/obsession as a kind of "caring," even if it's not for the sake of the other person.

Once again, thank you so much, and I look forward to what you’ll create!
