Dear Creator,

I am just delighted that you offered for anything here! And sorry for this letter coming two weeks after assignments were out. I had hoped to make it come out earlier, but things turned out differently. Please know that you don’t have to use this letter at all; it’s there in case you’d like it as an extra. Also, this is a Frankenstein effort: new parts, old parts from previous letters which stayed the same, old parts which were changed in the process of adaptation to the current letter. Not every AU tag has extra thoughts in here, but I desperately want every single thing I’ve requested!

All requests are for fanfic and fanart. There were a couple where I didn’t realize I hadn’t ticked the fanart box, and this will be noted in the relevant sections.

The mirror universe is a fun concept, and I’d love more on how the characters would think about the other versions of themselves/the people they know, and how that information would be layered into what they already knew despite the understanding that people are different. I would love to see how what seems like a friendly, fun dynamic with shared interests in the original universe is reflected in one where everyone must have their guard up just to stay alive, let alone as imperial officers. Uhura did a fine job of playing a role in the episode, but she didn’t have to be around Mirror Spock much. What if she had? What kinds of similarities and differences would they notice about each other, and what would they do about noticing?

Group: Spock/Nyota Uhura & Mirror Spock/Mirror Nyota Uhura (ST:TOS)

I love the mirror universe, and twin things! That little taste was so interesting, and more would just be great, especially in a shippy context. If they have a pleasant, respectful dynamic in the prime universe, how is it in the mirror universe, where things are much worse and yet Nyota can depend on his presence to at least keep people from making sexual advances on her while she's on duty? What would they learn about each other if one of them got switched? What if they all met, somehow, without having to switch; would the prime universe characters inspire their counterparts to expand how they think about themselves and each other, and would they find themselves challenged by how similar these very different people are? I'd love feelings about identity and how they find connections with themselves and also their spouses, and what their boundaries are when there's another self out there who's not the same. Angst and hurt/comfort and love, complicated but there.

Group: Mirror Spock/Mirror Nyota Uhura (ST:TOS)

So I really enjoyed the little hint of how their relationship might mirror the one in the Prime universe. That comment from Sulu about how neither the captain nor Spock was there to mind his being away from his post to hit on her...I don’t mean it’s an in-universe reference, necessarily, but it does make me think of “The Naked Time” episode, when Spock is watching an infected Sulu go after Uhura. I wonder if he’s protected her like that in this universe, and given what it is, whether that protection would come with a price, or be part of an alliance.

Neither of them is a good person in this place, but they can still care about each other, maybe—or maybe she got into his good graces, convinced him of the logic of an alliance, since they can use all the allies they can in such a cutthroat environment, particularly with it being a Terran empire (especially if you take Discovery into account—though you don’t have to of course, it’s a different fandom—with Sarek, presumably estranged from his son like he is in the Prime universe, being part of an alliance resisting the empire) and him being a first officer. How do they navigate the Mirror universe? Maybe they bond over having to murder a third party. What happens after the episode, with Spock considering changing his goals from merely following his orders and keeping himself secure and having that insta-kill weapon, and Uhura having a brief taste of what it was like in the nicer universe? Given that he’s willing to force a mind-meld on the people he thinks it will work on to gain answers when he needs them, how would that work out with someone he might have an alliance with? Also, the characters are not entirely unlike their Prime counterparts, with Spock being the pragmatic guy and even able to be swayed into trying to create a more civilized galaxy; how is Mirror Nyota like the one we know? She’s got to be nerdy and competent, as well as a cunning survivor to get this far. Is there perhaps anything like how the Prime Spock and Nyota bond over music and learning? Or, how about an adventure from one of the other episodes, where we get to see the Mirrorverse version of it?

If you’ve seen Discovery, the canon that a human and a Vulcan can communicate telepathically across long distances when that Vulcan has previously done a mind-meld with them and left part of their katra behind would be interesting to incorporate. Perhaps it could happen by accident, and now they’re bound together in a hostile environment, whether they trust each other or not.

This is mostly something we see in the background, but I love it. The little flirtation, the way he seems to enjoy her teasing him, that they seem to respect each other and have common interests in the language of music—the cut scene from “Elaan of Troyius” in which he’s interested in teaching her Vulcan music theory and she suggests the song he was playing was a little more exciting than he thought; I wish it had been kept!--and that, made more expressive by merging with Kollos, he recites Byron to her about how beautiful she is! She makes him think of Byron! And he seems to be around a lot to help her after something shakes the bridge and knocks her down. They’re both these cool, professional people who are friendly and enjoy each other, with Uhura being more expressive and Spock being subtler while having his own sense of fun, and I feel like they’d be relaxed together, and open to learning all sorts of things from each other.

It would be cool if they pine a lot while being professional and there’s tension, with eventual resolution of this tension. Maybe some external event thrusts them together, like sex pollen, and they already had feelings so this is a delicate situation throughout/in the aftermath. He could try to resist it even though it might kill him, but she persuades him otherwise, all charming and logical about how they both need it to survive the experience. Or they were already together, so it’s a different delicate situation, though conflict about what’s happening could still come up. I would see these scenarios as dubcon, because they do want it and are talking to each other about it, so they wouldn’t break my noncon DNW. The following scenario is an exception, though: they’re captured together and forced to have sex—for the purposes of breeding, education, or entertainment; any option is fine, and feel free to have any pregnancy work out or not, or to include an abortion, or not to do any pregnancy at all, as you wish—and they process this while also processing their pre-existing feelings and attraction to each other, whether they are rescued immediately after or remain in prolonged captivity and then are rescued. Or they have to huddle for warmth, and he really worries about protecting Uhura because of her comparatively fragile human body, she worries about him because this is so not the environment his species adapted to, and they make each other feel better—physically and emotionally. What if some newly discovered alien, plant, or animal confers psychic abilities or heightened senses, and Uhura could use some help dealing with it? Or something overloads Spock's senses and Uhura helps center him. Or they get captured and have to band together during the kind of out-there ordeals the characters tend to face when exploring. What if they meet dinosaurs? Not Saurians, but dinosaurs as they were known on Earth? Or dragons? Spock did say he’d seen one on Berengaria VII, and there’s another planet called Maravel with rainforest dragons. There could be others! Also, having seen the Mirror versions of the other, what do they think, and what does it add to their understanding of who they are? Alternately, what if they reconnect in the aftermath of Spock’s death and resurrection, and that’s when they go beyond friendship?

If you’ve seen Discovery, the canon that a human and a Vulcan can communicate telepathically across long distances when that Vulcan has previously done a mind-meld with them and left part of their katra behind would be interesting to incorporate.

For something a little farther from canon, what about a 1920s AU? Whether realistic or in a “Vulcans made contact with humans at that time for x reason.” Nyota and Spock in the Jazz Age in the United States could be fun! (She can be made African-American for this, or be visiting, she could have immigrated maybe—any of these options for why she’d be in the United States when she’s not American in canon is good with me.) I would also love a 1920s AU without the jazz aspect or an American setting, if you would like to do one but prefer a different direction. Actually, this reminds me of the gangster planet episode; if you want to use that planet or do a canon divergence for that episode, that would be cool too!

Or Vulcans making contact in a different time, but earlier than they did in canon, if another time period would be more interesting to you. It could be contemporary too! (I’ve heard there’s an episode of Enterprise with this earlier contact AU. I’ve not seen that show yet, but I’m fine with elements from it and spoilers!)

What if the universal translator never existed?

I like Regency AUs, so feel free to use that if you're inclined, whether it's a straight up historical one or a science fiction-inspired one, or fantasy. I'd adore any take on this, but if you would like a more specific idea, I think these characters could be interesting in a fusion with Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho, or using a similar premise. That is, the book has a hero with a precarious position in high society due to his background, and the unusually gifted heroine shakes both him and said society up with her own ambitions and origins when she comes into his life. It could be fun to play with Spock's issues as a half-human and half-Vulcan in a Regency context, is what I mean, and to have that interact with meeting Uhura trying to find her own way in society—whether or not you choose to bring in her race or decide to keep the aspect of Star Trek's utopian universe that says it's not a problem. I'm good with either of those choices.

Or what about a sort of old-school adventure SF story AU, in which the brave human heroine wins the heart of a beautiful alien in the midst of whatever trouble comes their way? Something in the planetary romance or sword and planet subgenres of science fiction.

The way these guys cared so much, were moved so deeply by each other, and have a complicated relationship that influenced them deeply despite them not really talking or getting along for what seems to have been a long time, is so good.

Why do I watch prequels when they hurt me? He wanted to follow her! He was going to do it and then he couldn’t. He was afraid of losing his balance without her, and she didn’t want to lose him! And even when they were fighting, he was so self-conscious about the beard when she caught him off-guard—it was so cute. After a whole season of her trying to help him and they started to reconnect, and him being supportive with the chess, and her punching Leland, and the big speech at the end because he wanted to watch her back personally; I am so sad.

I am willing to receive more sadness! Not bleak stuff, but the bittersweetness and hope of the ending we got. I’m also willing to receive fluff, and them trying to take care of each other. Fix-its in which they reconcile sooner, or he does go with her. Frozen AU/fusion, because Michael is Elsa and Spock is Anna. I like the idea of her shaving his beard instead of him doing it himself. Maybe pon farr is a thing Michael ends up helping him with…possibly even before they can reconcile, for the angst. There’s so much pining potential for them too, whether you go the platonic or the sexual route, with all the hurt of being estranged from each other. Also, the similarities and differences of their relationships to Amanda and Sarek are interesting: they’re both close to Amanda, though Amanda worries she isn’t being enough because she tries to adapt to Vulcan ways in her responses to him, and they have more obviously difficult relationships with Sarek and his expectations, but then Michael shares part of his soul and is still able to have a relationship with him, while Spock goes years without speaking to him. How might those relationships affect how they relate to each other?

I love these two, and the little stuff in the background as well as the forefront. The professionalism of them working together, where of course she’s going to face him about him letting their relationship influence where he puts her so that she’s in a lower position, his caving to her because he knows she’s right, and all the unspoken stuff underlying the interaction—and the sweet quiet moments of her trying to support him and him letting her support him, being affectionate, and then the idea that the original Spock being around both means that this Spock can continue onto the life he originally led on the Enterprise, and simultaneously means he’s going to live a different one from the start, more open to guidance from his emotions, with that benefit of hindsight.

How is the process of how they learn about each other? What if some newly discovered alien, plant, or animal confers psychic abilities or heightened senses, and Uhura could use some help dealing with it? Or something overloads Spock's senses and Uhura helps center him. What if they’re kidnapped by aliens and forced to fight each other, or participate in some other dangerous activity for their entertainment, such as fighting dinosaurs or riding dragons? If Spock had stayed on New Vulcan, how would they get through it? Would they work out a long-distance relationship? If they broke up instead, but reunited years later through their new jobs—perhaps a diplomatic mission—and the feelings were still there, so they re-examine their positions in the new context of their lives? If you’re familiar with the original series as well, it didn’t occur to me to nominate a crossover with both versions of Spock/Uhura (via time/dimension shenanigans), but I’d enjoy that too if that’s something which interests you.

Also, if you’ve seen Discovery, the canon that a human and a Vulcan can communicate telepathically across long distances when that Vulcan has previously done a mind-meld with them and left part of their katra behind would be interesting to incorporate.

For AUs, how about Vulcans making contact earlier than they did in canon? In a historical or contemporary period? (I’ve heard there’s an episode of Enterprise with this earlier contact AU. I’ve not seen that show yet, but I’m fine with elements from it and spoilers!) That could be a fun context for them to meet in.

The way the AOS ship we saw develop maps onto the TOS ship that we didn't see followed through is so fascinating to me. The TOS ship is a background attraction, rarely highlighted by the show, and then the AOS ship is often in the background, but in a way that is highlighted all throughout, and we get to know more of them, to be let into their own little world even as they interact with the wider one. We never really get to see the original Spock react to them or vice versa; I'd love to see that scenario, only with the original Nyota added in as well. Do time shenanigans make her come over sometime when she's older, but before she dies, at around the same time as the present day storyline of the movies, and then she and Spock get to watch their relationship happen for the first time? Or again, if they were together offscreen? Or you could do a switch, with one of the AOS characters and their young TOS counterpart—and does that mean the original Spock gets messed with, or is this yet another change that sprouts a new timeline? Or you have the five of them, both couples and an older Spock. All of these options are so interesting to me! As with the TOS request for the prime and mirrorverse ships, I'd love feelings about identity and how they find connections with themselves and also their spouses, and what their boundaries are when there's another self out there who's not the same. Angst and hurt/comfort and love, complicated but there. Humor is welcome too!

So they’re not raised together in this universe. If they met, how would things develop differently? We’ve seen interesting hints about the lives they must’ve led; Michael, though beloved by Philippa, was capable of turning against her, and we later see that Spock is working for the empire and has to be talked into even considering doing otherwise, when Sarek was leading a resistance ten years earlier. Mommy and daddy issues material. What could have happened if Michael had lived—whether she succeeded in betraying Philippa with Lorca, or chose not to, or got switched with the Prime version and then switched back—and got the chance to meet a young Spock trying to climb the ranks of imperial Terran society? Or the older one, who may or may not try to lead a resistance on his own? Would she be an emperor, or a rebel, or something else?

Group: Michael Burnham (ST:DSC) & Mirror Spock (ST:TOS)
Group: Michael Burnham (ST:DSC)/Mirror Spock (ST:TOS)

I adored the use of the mirror universe to bring Michael face to face with her demons in canon, so it would be quite fun to do it again with a different relationship. All that angst about hurting him and pushing him away, and now he’s a totally different person, a person she—unlike the case with Philippa—didn’t even have a parallel relationship with that would be similar to the one in her own universe. How does she feel about that if she meets him, whether he happens to be around for the Discovery events this time or she’s trapped there longer? What would he do with that, given their lack of a relationship and, given where they are, his being even more guarded than in canon despite the lack of a relationship for him to angst about?

Buffy is blatantly guided by her heart and uses it, but—her struggle with accepting this thing which was thrust on her notwithstanding—she’s committed to saving people, she’s willing to sacrifice and bears the weight, containing so much pain inside her to be strong for others. And she can be a pretty observant, intuitive person with people, and so empathetic and protective. Spock is so professional and level-headed, but he does have that deep well of feeling he keeps contained, because he understands he should, and a loneliness despite being among close friends which I think they could be able to recognize in each other. Buffy has a habit of being in quiet moments and talks with guys who get where she’s at even if they have different angles: Giles, Angel, Spike. And Spock doesn’t quite have the habit, but you see him being able to connect to Zarabeth as she shares her loneliness, external factors making that easier for him notwithstanding. They both know, for different reasons, something about what it’s like to walk in two worlds and try to live a life in which their whole selves can be fulfilled instead of denied. Plus, they both died a sacrificial death only to be brought back by determined friends. He’s the logic guy, but he also respects and values people who operate a little differently, and he’s an empathetic person who knows what it’s like to not quite fit in, like Buffy but for different reasons. And Spock is a little like both Giles and Angel, with the researching and the curiosity about new things plus that one time he quoted Byron, and the deep well of emotion he keeps in check. Not to mention the pon farr thing, which is different from Angel’s worry about losing his soul and wanting to find peace in her, but...it’s still related to the potential danger of instinct taking over, and their fear and shame of such a thing happening. And I can’t help but think of Buffy making a feverish Angel bite her and drain her to save him.

As for the logistics—there’s canon time travel in Star Trek. Buffy might see him in her context of demons, because that’s what she knows, but she’s capable of recognizing this doesn’t mean she needs to hurt him pretty quickly: see Angel after the initial post-kiss shock, and Oz. Or she goes forward in time—magic shenanigans, or she’s immortal in some way after the Slayer spell and still hunts demons in the future, or she’s frozen like Khan was—and Buffy, with a future even more open than it seemed in Chosen (if also bittersweet because of the loss of her loved ones from the show), gets up to adventures with him while exploring the galaxy? Or you could do a fusion in which one of them is AU’d into the setting of the other. How does Buffy do, having to slay and have a life in space—would she be interested in joining Starfleet, can she make it with her life, or does she go out on her own, or relying on other people’s resources? Or maybe she doesn’t have to slay at all, she’s just another person out there dealing with weird things, as Star Trek characters do. As for AU’ing Spock into this setting—maybe he’s trapped in this dimension, or he/his family had to flee their home, or they ended up estranged something like in canon, and he’s got to hide himself to blend into this human society which is so much more backwards than in the TOS future, causing angst. If you want to add some mentor/mentee dynamic to it, maybe he’s a college/Starfleet Academy professor and she becomes a surprise favorite. Or he’s her Watcher (in either canon’s setting.)

So these three characters all know what it’s like to grow up in a culture which teaches mastering emotion, in different ways—logic as a philosophy versus serving the Force. Ahsoka’s a warm, expressive teenager who grows up to be a warm, if also more level and sometimes mysterious adult with a lot of hidden pain. She would go to so much for people she loves, even if it’s unwise. Michael has her cool exterior and her angst about her heart being too much of an issue for her father, but she’s got so much warmth as well, and generosity of spirit. Again we have a character who would go to extremes for those she loves. We see Spock as an adult, also with a lot of hidden emotion and cool exterior, and a sweet side, and a subdued sort of humor—and if you are familiar with Discovery and willing to take it into account (I am happy regardless of which show’s Spock you know and write), a really angsty past in which he had to struggle to fit into the world he was born in. And as seen with Pike, he’s definitely willing to do stuff he technically shouldn’t in order to help someone he cares about. They’re all truly loyal people. I love how deeply the values of their culture matter to them, while at the same time they must navigate it from a position of difference. They have to reckon with who they are and the context they live in; it would be very interesting to see that play out in the context of relationships with each other. Not to mention, both universes have an important war break out in their lifetimes. Ahsoka was raised to think she would be a peacekeeper and became a soldier; Michael lived with the guilt of starting the war, and then with the fact of Starfleet’s purpose getting muddied by it; Spock lived with having to know it was happening and being far away, unable to do anything to affect it. I like to think Ahsoka and either Spock or Michael would enjoy each other’s sense of humor and share some nerdiness—they’re exploring the galaxy after all, and Ahsoka has so much mystical stuff surrounding her, and we last see her going off to do her own exploring (slash rescue mission) in the Unknown Regions. In a universe in which both the Jedi and Starfleet exist, how might people with different yet similar philosophical backgrounds relate? Not to mention, Vulcans are kind of psychic and so are Jedi/Force-users; how might that mix? What if Ahsoka comes to their side of space while on her quest for Ezra? Or maybe she walks out of her dimension via Malachor and into Star Trek’s.

This request is officially fic only; I accidentally didn’t click the fanart ticky box in my haste to make it on time, but the intent was to request art as well and I would still love some.

I really love these two, how they mirror each other and go down such different paths, how first Anakin tries to hold onto Ahsoka and then Ahsoka tries to hold onto him, the tragedy of their failure to manage it and living with that. I really liked the point in her novel where she’s thinking about how he used to take care of her after battles, and help her deal with the mental toll of the war. I love their banter and their pleasure in dangerous situations, so maybe a moment building on that. Or something leaning on the near-telepathic abilities the Force gives them, with regard to being able to sense each others' feelings--they might sense something and pursue the matter, or get distracted and lose control of their own feelings. Not to mention, the Force gives them more stamina, so they could last a while.

The scene of Ahsoka’s resurrection is one of my favorites. There’s so much that could be done with it! Given that in canon the transference seems to have permanently connected her to an embodiment of the daughter’s light in Morai, what if instead or in addition to that, she’d been granted the power Anakin has? If she had to share in it? Suddenly she can do more with less effort, less meditation, and they’re both interested in where it could lead, and they talk about it.

In a timeline in which Ahsoka goes to the Unknown Regions early instead of staying on Coruscant before Maul comes up, does he meet up with her for one last planned mission, or is it unplanned and they’re brought together? Does he go after leaving the Jedi/his life, or is that something considered later?

Maybe he tries to reach her after he’s gone back to the Light Side; what do they say, and how do they begin to move on? Does she know it, with the mystical transformation she seems to have undergone by then? Maybe after Anakin dies, Ahsoka decides to save him like he once saved her; ghost sex ensues. Or the ghost sex comes first and they have no idea of the result until it happens. Or it’s just plain ghost sex without resurrection. Or what if he actually survived—they thought their time to live was over, and now they have to deal with living in a galaxy they never expected, together. Is he exiled or choosing to hide in the Unknown Regions, or just deciding to go with her?

The Stardust premise (book or movie, I’m familiar with and like both) could map really easily onto them; Anakin questing to impress a woman he loves, while also having mother issues, running into Ahsoka, and them falling in love through adventure and misadventure. I’d be happy if you were inspired to do it the other way, too, with Anakin being the star and Ahsoka trying to impress Lux or Barriss or otherwise prove herself.

I’d also love a Regency AU, whether set in space or somewhere more historical, or fantastical. Maybe a ward and guardian story. Or something akin to Sorcerer of the Crown by Zen Cho, with Anakin in this elevated but unstable position in society due to his origins and Ahsoka, also with a less than respectable background (maybe that she’s Togruta instead of human), swooping into his life with all her confidence and talent. Or a fairytale AU! Some fairytales I can think of that might be relevant to this pairing are “The Snow Queen” and “East of the Sun, West of the Moon.” The Tam Lin ballad feels relevant too. With the questing, and the loved one being taken away/hiding away.

Again, I am so happy with whichever request and combos within that you choose, and I thank you for choosing them! Wishing you a good exchange experience.
