Dear author,

I am so sorry; I only just realized this letter slipped my mind throughout the whole writing period. It’s a few days to the deadline now, but in case you do check again I wanted you to see my apology and, if it’s any help at this point, what I wrote. You definitely don’t have to use my prompts; even if the letter had been on time, I never want you to feel like you have to stick to them if they do nothing for you.

Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)

Nyota Uhura (Star Trek AOS)
Group: Amanda Grayson and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek AOS)
Group: Gaila and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek AOS)

Fanfiction

I would love to see more of Nyota’s time at the academy, whether having fun or studying or both. Or thoughts on the fact of there being at least one other her out there. Adventures not shown in the films too--I like to think Gaila survived the events of the first movie. For her and Amanda, I think it would be interesting to look at the professional aspect--Amanda having worked on the universal translator, Nyota’s line of study and work being in communications--and would enjoy the personal angle of their relationships with Spock too, separately or in conjunction with that. Maybe the professional commonality is a thing which makes meeting the family easier?

If inclined towards shippiness, I like: Spock/Uhura, Gaila/Uhura at the Academy, Spock Prime/Spock/Uhura, McCoy/Spock/Uhura.

Nyota Uhura (Star Trek TOS)

Group: Nyota Uhura and Mirror Nyota Uhura (Star Trek TOS)

I’d love to see Nyota processing some of the things which the Enterprise gets up to, whether it’s light-hearted or regarding something more difficult, like getting her memory erased or being tortured. It would also be fun to see her and her mirror counterpart dealing with the other universe and who they are in it, whether within the confines of canon or in a story in which they meet. For her and Amanda, I think it would be interesting to look at the professional aspect--Amanda having worked on the universal translator, Nyota’s line of study and work being in communications--and would enjoy the personal angle of their relationships with Spock too, separately or in conjunction with that. Maybe Amanda gives her more material with which to tease him?

If inclined towards shippiness, I like either or both Nyotas with pretty much anyone in either version of the crew whether male or female, and with any of the guest star female characters, including Rayna and Zarabeth.

Rayna (Star Trek TOS)

Rayna’s fate was pretty awful. I’d love to see her get away and see the universe, meet more people outside the context of Flint, whether in AU in which she somehow comes back to the surprise of all, or in one where she just never dies. If it’s the former option, I also felt it was terrible that on top of everything else, she won’t be remembered by one of the few people she had the chance to know and who cared about her. It was intended to help Kirk, of course, but that doesn’t make me feel less awful on her behalf...and find the lack of consent involved in that mental adjustment striking. So maybe something where the memory isn’t erased so much as suppressed, and they meet again? They can be together or not, but it would be nice to see her get to process her emotions about him and what happened there later, and to see her not be forgotten. Or another note, maybe some backstory, a slice of life look at her interiority before she was fully aware of herself.

Zarabeth (Star Trek TOS)

Zarabeth’s fate was horrifying too. I’m struck by the absolute loneliness, mirrored in the snowy wastes she has to survive in. A day in the life of being alone, how she comes to grips with it to stay as adjusted as she is, her rationalization of not telling Spock and Bones that it’s possible they aren’t as trapped as she is. If a fix-it where she does get to come with them, how does she handle the change, and how do her dynamics with the characters go? I thought her connection with Spock was interesting because it seemed genuine on both ends even if it also involved dishonesty on her part and an outside influence on his--how would they process it if she escaped too, whether they stayed together or, put a halt on things but continued a romance later, or not?

Fanfiction

I love Michael and I love that her relationships with her various mother figures have been at the heart of the show so far. Backstory, the layers of who these people are to each other versus who they have been in the past--whether because of alternate timelines or time travel, and all the perspective those things bring. Not to mention the issues that crop up even in these relationships without bringing other versions of each other in. Angst and/or introspection would be interesting (I love Michael’s reflections throughout the show), but I’m also game for something light-hearted, sweet, bantery, adventurous, or all of these things.

If inclined towards shippiness, I like either or both Michaels with pretty much anybody except Paul, Hugh, Amanda, and Gabrielle.

Group: Michael Burnham (Star Trek DSC) and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek TOS)

I think they would have a great vibe, because Nyota is comfortable around Vulcan cool and Michael has a warmth that can equal hers, and then I also see them as bold, and enjoying each other’s boldness and sense of humor. Shippy or gen directions are both good.

Group: Michael Burnham (Star Trek DSC) and Ahsoka Tano (Star Wars)

The fact they were both raised in cultures known for their detachment and enlightenment, with those cultures being different and existing in different contexts, is just so interesting to me. Science and logic versus faith and trusting your feelings/the Force, the ideals of serenity, the kinds of telepathy biological Vulcans have versus what the Jedi have. On the level of who they are as people, they’re both women willing to go rogue if that’s what they think they should do, and have experienced conflict over their actions in the context of their cultures, and yet Ahsoka deciding to escape custody and later leave the Jedi is not exactly the same as Michael’s mutiny and her initial resistance to rejoining Starfleet. Plus, they’re both funny, badass women with so much heart. Shippy or gen directions are both good.

If you’d like thoughts on logistics: maybe the Jedi are AU’d into Star Trek or Vulcans into Star Wars, or they share a universe somehow. If you want to take the “long long ago, in a galaxy far, far away” literally, there could also be time travel where Star Wars happens in the distant past of Earth and therefore of Star Trek. Or maybe Michael wanders into the World Between Worlds, or Ahsoka wanders in from there.

Group: Nyota Uhura (Star Trek AOS) and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek TOS)

I would’ve loved for them to meet, whether TOS Nyota was older or if it somehow happened when they were the same age. What would they make of the slightly different turns their lives took in the Academy, and the bigger differences of their timelines?

They’re just gorgeous inside and out, and so good socially, and composed, and funny, and not afraid to challenge people. It’d be great to see what they made of each other, maybe playing an instrument together or just talking. Or an adventure in which they team up to save the day!

Group: Evelyn Carnahan (The Mummy) and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek TOS)
Group: Evelyn Carnahan (The Mummy) and Nyota Uhura (Star Trek AOS)

They are both so game to go on adventures even if it wouldn’t seem to be in their specific job descriptions, and Evie’s knowledge of and interest in ancient languages is something that could go over well with Nyota. And I just find them both very charming and fun; they could go great together. Maybe Evie is AU’d into Star Trek and something like the plot of the movie happens in the future so they must save the day, or time travel is involved in either direction.

Again, I am so sorry for my mistake, and any inconvenience and stress caused by it.
