Spock/Nyota Uhura (TOS)
This is mostly something we see in the background, but I love it. The little flirtation, the way he seems to enjoy her teasing him, that they seem to respect each other and have common interests in the language of music—the cut scene from “Elaan of Troyius” in which he’s interested in teaching her Vulcan music theory and she suggests the song he was playing was a little more exciting than he thought; I wish it had been kept!--and that, made more expressive by merging with Kollos, he recites Byron to her about how beautiful she is! She makes him think of Byron! And he seems to be around a lot to help her after something shakes the bridge and knocks her down. They’re both these cool, professional people who are friendly and enjoy each other, with Uhura being more expressive and Spock being subtler while having his own sense of fun, and I feel like they’d be relaxed together, and open to learning all sorts of things from each other.
They don’t seem to be together in canon, at least not all the time, because it doesn’t come up the few times he gets a girl-of-the-week, but it would be cool to do something in which they were and you can do missing scenes, fic where they turn out to be together in the background of some plot while everything is the same as it happened on the show, or they get together and break up but then get back together again after the events of the show, or they pine a lot while being professional and there’s tension, with eventual resolution of this tension. Maybe some external event thrusts them together, like sex pollen, and they already had feelings so this is a delicate situation throughout/in the aftermath. He could try to resist it even though it might kill him, but she persuades him otherwise, all charming and logical about how they both need it to survive the experience. Or they were already together, so it’s a different delicate situation, though conflict about what’s happening could still come up. I would see these scenarios as dubcon, because they do want it and are talking to each other about it, so they wouldn’t break my noncon DNW. The following scenario is an exception, though: they’re captured together and forced to have sex—for the purposes of breeding, education, or entertainment; any option is fine, and feel free to have any pregnancy work out or not, or to include an abortion, or not to do any pregnancy at all, as you wish—and they process this while also processing their pre-existing feelings and attraction to each other, whether they are rescued immediately after or remain in prolonged captivity and then are rescued. Or they have to huddle for warmth, and he really worries about protecting Uhura because of her comparatively fragile human body, she worries about him because this is so not the environment his species adapted to, and they make each other feel better—physically and emotionally. What if some newly discovered alien, plant, or animal confers psychic abilities or heightened senses, and Uhura could use some help dealing with it? Or something overloads Spock's senses and Uhura helps center him. Or they get captured and have to band together during the kind of out-there ordeals the characters tend to face when exploring. What if they meet dinosaurs? Not Saurians, but dinosaurs as they were known on Earth? Or dragons? Spock did say he’d seen one on Berengaria VII, and there’s another planet called Maravel with rainforest dragons. There could be others! Also, having seen the Mirror versions of the other, what do they think, and what does it add to their understanding of who they are? Alternately, what if they reconnect in the aftermath of Spock’s death and resurrection, and that’s when they go beyond friendship?
If you’ve seen Discovery, the canon that a human and a Vulcan can communicate telepathically across long distances when that Vulcan has previously done a mind-meld with them and left part of their katra behind would be interesting to incorporate.
For something a little farther from canon, what about a 1920s AU? Whether realistic or in a “Vulcans made contact with humans at that time for x reason.” Nyota and Spock in the Jazz Age in the United States could be fun! (She can be made African-American for this, or be visiting, she could have immigrated maybe—any of these options for why she’d be in the United States when she’s not American in canon is good with me.) I would also love a 1920s AU without the jazz aspect or an American setting, if you would like to do one but prefer a different direction. Actually, this reminds me of the gangster planet episode; if you want to use that planet or do a canon divergence for that episode, that would be cool too!
Or Vulcans making contact in a different time, but earlier than they did in canon, if another time period would be more interesting to you. It could be contemporary too! (I’ve heard there’s an episode of Enterprise with this earlier contact AU. I’ve not seen that show yet, but I’m fine with elements from it and spoilers!)
What if the universal translator never existed?
I like Regency AUs, so feel free to use that if you're inclined, whether it's a straight up historical one or a science fiction-inspired one, or fantasy. I'd adore any take on this, but if you would like a more specific idea, I think these characters could be interesting in a fusion with Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho, or using a similar premise. That is, the book has a hero with a precarious position in high society due to his background, and the unusually gifted heroine shakes both him and said society up with her own ambitions and origins when she comes into his life. It could be fun to play with Spock's issues as a half-human and half-Vulcan in a Regency context, is what I mean, and to have that interact with meeting Uhura trying to find her own way in society—whether or not you choose to bring in her race or decide to keep the aspect of Star Trek's utopian universe that says it's not a problem. I'm good with either of those choices.
Or what about a sort of old-school adventure SF story AU, in which the brave human heroine wins the heart of a beautiful alien in the midst of whatever trouble comes their way? Something in the planetary romance or sword and planet subgenres of science fiction.
Mirror Spock/Nyota Uhura (TOS)
I like complicated identity stuff, and the thought of meeting another version of someone you care about is so fun! The environment and characters are so different between universes, and yet some things stay the same; how would the friendly, fun dynamic they seem to enjoy in the prime universe be mirrored in one where things aren’t easy, you have to be suspicious of everyone, and it seems tensions between humans and other races are much higher? Spock having such a high rank despite that last thing adds another interesting wrinkle to things. I’d love to see those different dynamics rub against each other as the characters do (physically and/or figuratively speaking); what if had ended up being Nyota whose mind he read? Or if she had had to distract him in order to ensure their escape, rather than Sulu?
Mirror Spock/Mirror Nyota Uhura (TOS)
So I really enjoyed the little hint of how their relationship might mirror the one in the Prime universe. That comment from Sulu about how neither the captain nor Spock was there to mind his being away from his post to hit on her...I don’t mean it’s an in-universe reference, necessarily, but it does make me think of “The Naked Time” episode, when Spock is watching an infected Sulu go after Uhura. I wonder if he’s protected her like that in this universe, and given what it is, whether that protection would come with a price, or be part of an alliance.
Neither of them is a good person in this place, but they can still care about each other, maybe—or maybe she got into his good graces, convinced him of the logic of an alliance, since they can use all the allies they can in such a cutthroat environment, particularly with it being a Terran empire (especially if you take Discovery into account—though you don’t have to of course, it’s a different fandom—with Sarek, presumably estranged from his son like he is in the Prime universe, being part of an alliance resisting the empire) and him being a first officer. How do they navigate the Mirror universe? Maybe they bond over having to murder a third party. What happens after the episode, with Spock considering changing his goals from merely following his orders and keeping himself secure and having that insta-kill weapon, and Uhura having a brief taste of what it was like in the nicer universe? Given that he’s willing to force a mind-meld on the people he thinks it will work on to gain answers when he needs them, how would that work out with someone he might have an alliance with? Also, the characters are not entirely unlike their Prime counterparts, with Spock being the pragmatic guy and even able to be swayed into trying to create a more civilized galaxy; how is Mirror Nyota like the one we know? She’s got to be nerdy and competent, as well as a cunning survivor to get this far. Is there perhaps anything like how the Prime Spock and Nyota bond over music and learning? Or, how about an adventure from one of the other episodes, where we get to see the Mirrorverse version of it?
If you’ve seen Discovery, the canon that a human and a Vulcan can communicate telepathically across long distances when that Vulcan has previously done a mind-meld with them and left part of their katra behind would be interesting to incorporate. Perhaps it could happen by accident, and now they’re bound together in a hostile environment, whether they trust each other or not.
For something a little different, I like Star Wars and Sith AUs. I think giving them the twisted Sith mentor/apprentice relationship could work interestingly with the Mirror Universe.
Feel free to take prompts from the Prime universe section above and adapt them to this version of the ship!

We don’t get to see much of the self-meeting stuff, or the first Spock adjusting to his younger self having a lover at that time of his life. It would be interesting to explore that! I’d love a process of them getting to know the similarities and differences, exploring the boundaries of identity and recentering themselves after this. Maybe through visits, or correspondence, or both? I ship both the old and new versions of Spock/Uhura; you can have the old version be a couple in the first Spock’s past, or not.

Why do I watch prequels when they hurt me? He wanted to follow her! He was going to do it and then he couldn’t. He was afraid of losing his balance without her, and she didn’t want to lose him! And even when they were fighting, he was so self-conscious about the beard when she caught him off-guard—it was so cute. After a whole season of her trying to help him and they started to reconnect, and him being supportive with the chess, and her punching Leland, and the big speech at the end because he wanted to watch her back personally; I am so sad.
I am willing to receive more sadness! Not bleak stuff, but the bittersweetness and hope of the ending we got. I’m also willing to receive fluff, and them trying to take care of each other. Fix-its in which they reconcile sooner, or he does go with her, a missing scene if you can find a place to put it, maybe a conversation about what their plans to go will do to their parents because holy shit. Or childhood backstory, maybe from before Michael did her thing to isolate herself from Spock for his own good; or maybe she doesn’t make that decision this time, and they can be a little happier. Frozen AU/fusion, because Michael is Elsa and Spock is Anna. I like the idea of her shaving his beard instead of him doing it himself. Maybe pon farr is a thing Michael ends up helping him with…possibly even before they can reconcile, for the angst. There’s so much pining potential for them too, whether you go the platonic or the sexual route, with all the hurt of being estranged from each other. Also, the similarities and differences of their relationships to Amanda and Sarek are interesting: they’re both close to Amanda, though Amanda worries she isn’t being enough because she tries to adapt to Vulcan ways in her responses to him, and they have more obviously difficult relationships with Sarek and his expectations, but then Michael shares part of his soul and is still able to have a relationship with him, while Spock goes years without speaking to him. How might those relationships affect how they relate to each other?
I’d also welcome dealings with their Mirrorverse selves, in an AU where they get to meet them—whether or not the Prime universe version of the other is also in the story. Or something with only the Mirror versions.
Michael Burnham/Christopher Pike (DIS)
These two have so much charisma and they get along so well so fast! I love their energy and rapport, how they seem to be on the same wavelength. And they’re such protective people too, comfortable with risk and sacrifice. I’d love to see them having all kinds of fun in a universe where they could spend more time together. Maybe taking care of the other when they’re hurt—I love that Christopher joined Philippa in trying to stop Michael hurting herself to lure the Red Angel. It was very sweet, so more of that from either end would be great. Or them trying to fight over who’s going to take some big risk. If you want to use the mirrorverse self of either one, that’s good too! I love the mirror universe.
Michael Burnham/Philippa Georgiou (DIS)
I love how their dynamic is at the center of the show even though Philippa has been dead for most of it. It transcends universes! The banter and the respect and the depth, even under strain. Their devotion to each other. Philippa seeing herself as needing to crack the Vulcan shell of Michael’s upbringing is very interesting, as is the idea of Sarek veering from wanting her to be Vulcan to, once he decided she wouldn’t be joining the Vulcan Expeditionary Group, thrusting her back at humanity. We see Michael still getting used to that side of her with the Discovery group; what was it like for her on the Shenzhou, then? Undoubtedly easier without the added trauma of the pilot’s events, but her issues were still present, as we see in those episodes. How did she relate to her humanity, and by extension to Philippa, before that? I’d love to see scenes from that time, or an alternate universe in which Philippa survived, whether or not that universe includes the war.

Pairing these together because they’re from the same timeline; I will be happy with whichever you use, whichever bit of canon you’re familiar with. This would seem like an opposites attract ship, but there are some commonalities mixed in which add some interesting texture to that. There’s a degree to which they both angst about not fitting in, and they find a sort of second home with a collection of friends. Spock has to find a kind of balance between the two sides of his heritage, for his own peace, and the question of Buffy the person versus Buffy the Slayer is ongoing throughout the show. Buffy’s fight is to be a person, and with her that manifests in her seeing her emotions as a strength, but she struggles with what that means when she’s responsible for so many lives. He would rather err on the side of duty and logic, but he struggles with what that means in the intense situations he gets put through. Also, they know what it’s like to be on the wrong side of the law for good reasons, they’ve both died and been brought back, and Discovery gives Spock Buffy’s usual apocalyptic problems. Fun!
I’d be happy with a fusion or a crossover. Time travel is canon for Star Trek, so either character could wind up in the other’s time; Buffy could’ve been frozen for some reason, like Khan was; I always liked the fanon idea that the Slayer spell at the end of the show had made Buffy immortal. Or maybe she was always born closer in the Starfleet era, and Sunnydale is some remote planet with a hellmouth. Or maybe she’s not a Slayer then. Or maybe he’s her Watcher.
Spock (TOS)/Buffy Summers (BTVS TV)/Nyota Uhura (TOS)
As above, but with Uhura! I think she’d like Buffy’s seize the day motto; maybe a later seasons (or older!) Buffy wouldn’t be as sure about that, but it could be reawakened. And they’re both such socially confident women, with a sense of humor--it would be fun to have Spock teased by them. A totally pleasant ganging up.
Evelyn Carnahan (The Mummy)/Nyota Uhura (TOS)
I was bitten by the thought of this during a rewatch of The Mummy some months ago and I’m still intrigued! They’re both so charming, and smart, and beautiful. Imagine a fusion in which Evie lives in the future and perhaps makes an exciting discovery someplace the Enterprise has to stop by. Or there could be time travel! That’s Star Trek canon, and I’m sure Evie wouldn’t be shocked either. They’d be so excited to learn about each other’s settings firsthand; Nyota could introduce Evie to the universal translator.
Again, thank you so much! I wish you a happy exchange!

Spock/Spock Prime/Nyota Uhura (AOS)
Medium: Fanart - Freeform, Medium: Fanfic - Freeform, Medium: Fanvid
We don’t get to see much of the self-meeting stuff, or the first Spock adjusting to his younger self having a lover at that time of his life. It would be interesting to explore that! I’d love a process of them getting to know the similarities and differences, exploring the boundaries of identity and recentering themselves after this. Maybe through visits, or correspondence, or both? I ship both the old and new versions of Spock/Uhura; you can have the old version be a couple in the first Spock’s past, or not.

This is an exception to my incest DNW.
