Although I can't say I love Harry Potter like I used to, I still feel excited about the movie/book releases next July. I wanted to enter the Amazon contest to get the chance to win a free copy of Deathly Hallows, but I don't live in the right place for that.):
I just hope the movie will be better than the others(not that I don't like them). The portrayal of Luna had better ge great, though it's not as if I think it won't be, since JKR really likes how the actress did her job. So, I can hope for some definite goodness there.
DH is another story, though. I really don't like how HBP turned out, making me dislike most of the characters. I know this'll sound weird to some people, but I think JKR really wrote them out of character so that they would conform to the plot. I get that they're supposed to change and grow from what they were before to be dynamic characters, but it seemed like they behaved how they did with zero to no development shown.
The main romances were awfully written. I mean, Hermione set a flock of birds on Ron's face! That's not acceptable behavior from a main character we're supposed to like, even if they are jealous. Now that pairing is tainted for me.
The Harry/Ginny and Ginny herself were also done badly, in my opinion. I won't go into presenting paragraphs and quotes from the book, because it's already been excellently done over at the community HBP Spork. The book was supposed to make us think she was awesome, but the only things JKR gives us to make us think that are what the characters have to say about her. She's supposed to be in the spotlight in HBP, but we're never really shown how great she is. We're told that she's a skilled, powerful witch, we're told that she's funny(when she's just being nasty for no good reason, like her comments about Fleur), we're told by JKR that she's sweet, warm, and caring, but I can't recall a single instant where she was any of those things, and we're just supposed to think she's popular all of a suddeen(which I wouldn't really mind if weren't brought up so much just so Harry and the audience will think of her as a catch). About the only things I don't mind about her in book six are that she's pretty and that she's friends with Luna. I used to be okay with Harry/Ginny, but now I can't even think about the pairing without feeling disdain for it.
I just hope that DH will in some way make up for the travesty of book six, with little to no Harry/Ginny(unless it's like Creamtea's The Fall of H/G Theory, which would turn much of HBP into excellent work), more focus on the trio's friendship and the actual plot, and hopefully more Luna. I'm biased in that last part, as she's my favorite character, and I do ship Harry/Luna somewhat, though I don't think it'll happen in the books. I'll just enjoy my wishful thinking.
In the meantime, I'll enjoy the movie and I've already pre-ordered the book from Amazon. It's so cheap there! I hope it arrives on the 21rst, like they said it would.
