I went to see 30 Days of Night tonight. I usually don't like brutal horror movies(or any at all, really, though I like to watch vampires and werewolves), but this one was very good. The tension, brutality, the fear and desperation really had me, and there was suspense from the beginning.
It was so grim though; I'm not sure I'd want to watch it much. The ending was sad too, for all that it had its goodness in it. Bittersweet. There were maybe two things that made me roll my eyes a bit, but they weren't (or at least one of them wasn't) handled in the cliché way I expected (if you know why the ending is bittersweet, you might know why).
My only real issue would be that it had little in the way of plot, but that's not much of a problem, because it's not the type of movie that's supposed to have one, and it did well regardless, instead of making me want to go on about how stupid the lack of plot does. I want to know a little more about those vampires though. I guess that's what fanfic is there for. I'll go look.
Also, I now want to see a Buffy crossover with it, even though the vampires are completely different, which could be explained somehow, since there are at least two different types of vampires in the Buffyverse anyway.
