The last question was difficult: for 'reaction to discovering your loved one slaughtered many people once,' I only chose 'kill them and mourn for a long time' because it seemed the aspirational option. If you can't kill your boyfriend for the greater good, how can I ship your relationship?

Dear Rarewomen Author,

Thank you for writing me a story. I hope you will enjoy writing it. I also hope that this list will help and not hinder you.

First, my squicks and and dislikes. Please no rape or torture. Or completely grim stories, though this canon does have grim parts. I'd just prefer it to not be relentless if you do choose to write sadness.

I don't mind AUs or crossovers, or holiday-fic for holidays that are canonical or could plausibly be canonical. Though if it's an AU there would be different rules. Any combination of the characters is cool, or even alone. Now onto fandoms. I wrote less for some of these than for others, because thanks to the years, I don't remember enough to offer more thoughts and prompts. But I requested W.I.T.C.H., Spellsong Cycle, and RomeoxJuliet for last Yuletide, so there is also my letter from that. I did take a bit of that letter for this one.

Yuletide done! Well, not done exactly, since I hope to get it beta'd and will edit it more regardless. And I may write a treat. But the fic is done!

ETA: I decided to post up the super long RomeoxJuliet list. It's long because it's the most recent of my fandoms, so I remember more or less what happens in every episode and could share my thoughts more specifically; I could also rely on what I wrote for my last watch to check for errors. I ended up interspersing my thoughts with summaries of the relevant scenes. Sorry to make you wait, dear writer! And for making this so long.

Dear Yuletide Author:

Thank you for writing me a story. I hope you will enjoy writing it and have a wonderful holiday. I also hope that this list will help and not hinder you.

So, since I think I put up most of the fic details intended for the letter into the signup optional details, I’m going to go a little into what I see the canons and characters as.

Despite the awful things that happen in it, this is an optimistic book. Or actually, it's the bad things that happen in it that make it optimistic. A book can't be optimistic if it doesn't have the horrible things that happen in life. That's fantasy (not in the speculative genre sense, though many fantasy novels also fit this definition.) Lauren Olamina shapes her life and guides others in shaping theirs no matter what happens to them.

Upon watching it again, this time on tv, I have an expansion to make to previous thoughts noted elsewhere.

It's notable that she resorts to violence so quickly, in a city where hostilities are already escalating to its detriment.

Korra would likely have gotten in trouble even if she'd just started putting out each fire one of the thugs set instead of immediately confronting him, because he's then want to confront her. But at least then the fighting would have been self-defense. Not that fighting to help protect a person is bad, but it wasn't the first thing she could have done if she really couldn't help doing something, even if I don't blame her for not calling the police. She probably didn't know how.

Then with the destruction of property - the newspaper and the cord it was hanging on, the monument - she means well, but needs to not resort to violence for every problem. Of course, with her lack of understanding about money and varying standards of living, she probably doesn't understand how damaging it was for her cause destruction while trying to get that one gang. She actually was oppressing those people whose property got damaged, by not considering their needs and using her powers to be able to ignore them(even though she did it out of ignorance, because the ability to be ignorant is part of privilege too). If she hadn't had them, it's be a bit more risky for herself to interfere, let alone chase those guys down. Plus she got out of the charges via being connected to the right person who could interfere on her behalf, and was surprised her connection with Chief Bei Fong would help her. That's what privileged people do: be out of touch with reality and expect others to not hold them responsible for what they do. I admire the complexity of the situation being presented here.Hopefully it will stay complicated and not easy to resolve.

Music is lovely as always.

That promo at the end - so the probending will really take a backseat/be the setting for the hostilities to erupt?

Fluttershy

Full personality description:

Chronically weak and timid, but with a heart of solid gold, you tend to require and depend on the help of your friends in most situations. You enjoy their company, but also enjoy solitude and time away from your friends where you can enjoy the sounds of nature. Just because you know you're weak doesn't mean it holds you back, because you know you're strong where it counts, with your overabundance of kindness, caring, and compassion.

You're often worried about saying or doing the wrong things and also fear rejection. Speaking of fear, you've got a lot of it, often times letting your fear hold you back from doing even the most simple of things, such as jumping across a cliff. But in that fear, you can often find just enough bravery to stand up for doing the right thing if your friends need you.

You may be naive and innocent, and you're very shy and quiet, but you're also a very good listener and are likely the one your friends blab on about their problems to — and while you may feel powerless to help at times, just listening and cheering them on means the world to them. Yay!
