The Atheist Christmas Carol - Vienna Teng

For my first non-fic exchange post in forever, have my favorite Christmas song! Two days late.

I'm very restless and don't know what to do. There are a lot of things to Tumblr, but I don't want to go through them all and I'm sure I won't be able to before more things pop up on my dash. Kind of wish I didn't have to see the dashboard every time I reblogged. Between that and the recommended blogs feature, Tumblr is truly a vortex near impossible to escape.

Don't know if I have the concentration to read Yuletide fic though, which is the other thing. I read my gift (a Cinders fic developing Madam Ghede and rescuing the stepsisters! :) )and a little more, but there's so much! I'm so happy this year had so many prompts and fandoms I'm interested in get fulfilled.

I wish I had graphics experience. I want to do stuff I want to see! (I get so many graphics ideas I don't even write down; I never see anybody do them and then they get lost to the wind.) And participate in more memes/exchanges, and do stuff for fandom_stocking. Alas, I never really get started in that direction.

Hello Yuletide Author! I apologize for taking so long, but here is my letter. I'm glad it and you are here!

The squicks section (which is the same as my other letters, just so I don't miss anything) will go first. Please no rape or torture, unless it’s just alluded to or mentioned - nothing explicit or the focus of the story, please. I'd also like a limit of "gross-out" elements like gory details and bodily fluids. Or completely grim stories, though these sources do have grim parts and that's part of the appeal. I'd rather the sadness not be relentless and total. Unless it's symbiotic with the story you want to tell! Gen, het, and femslash are all fine, but my preference is that m/m slash not be the focus of the story, since I’m not really interested in it. Please no ship or character bashing. I'm good with AUs or crossovers, or holiday-fic for holidays that are canonical or could plausibly be canonical. Though if it's an AU there would be different rules as to canonical holidays. Any combination of the characters is cool, or even alone.

Thank you for offering to write me a story! I appreciate the effort and I'm really excited! I hope you enjoy it and that the letter will help with that.
Thank you so much for the effort you will put in and I’m sorry I didn’t get this done earlier!

First I'll get squicks and dislikes out of the way. Please no rape or torture, unless it’s just alluded to or mentioned - nothing explicit or the focus of the story, please. (However, OUAT does include canon rape by deception, and I’d be interested in a story that explored this in relationship to Emma’s characterization. But not as a romanticized or smutty thing.) I'd also like a limit of "gross-out" elements like gory details and bodily fluids. Or completely grim stories, though these sources do have grim parts and that's part of the appeal. I'd rather the sadness not be relentless and total. Unless it's symbiotic with the story you want to tell! I’d also like to request that there be no ship bashing. I like a good deal of the canon ships, even love them. They’re not all nominated here but I don’t want to see negativity directed at them and/or the halves of pairings. Lastly, I’d rather there be no smut for Ever After High.

I'm good with AUs or crossovers, or holiday-fic for holidays that are canonical or could plausibly be canonical. Though if it's an AU there would be different rules as to canonical holidays. I do prefer AUs that take place in the same setting, but if similar emotional beats/dynamics are hit I can enjoy others too! I like both character studies and plot.

Again, thank you for writing me a fic! I hope it’s an enjoyable experience for you.
Thank you for offering to write me a story! I apologize for being late to unlock this. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do prompts for the twenty-seven ships I requested, but my hope is that the letter is still helpful.

Thank you in advance for gifting me a story, and I hope this letter makes it easier and/or more enjoyable for you. Apologies for being late to unlock it!

First I'll get squicks and dislikes out of the way. Please no rape or torture, unless it’s just alluded to or mentioned - nothing explicit or the focus of the story, please. As for the fandom prompts! I've been immersed in some of these more recently than in others, and those are the ones that get me rambly because they haven't had as much time to settle in and I remember details better. I've also requested W.I.T.C.H., Spellsong Cycle, and Romeo x Juliet on several occasions (for Yuletide and Rarewomen), with the same characters except for the addition of Elyon to the W.I.T.C.H roster. So you can look to old letters if you wish. Lastly, the types of prompts turned out pretty similar, but they're only to provide a jumpstart if one is necessary. I'd be interested in stories different from the kind suggested here!

I can't believe I put it off so long, but I've finally nominated fandoms for this year's Yuletide.

For anyone reading who might want to do the same but hasn't heard of this, it's a small/rare fandom fic exchange, and the nominations close 11 1/2 hours from now. This year you can nominate up to three fandoms and up to four characters.

I nominated two of my usual fandoms--Romeo x Juliet and the Spellsong Cycle books--and a new one, the Cinders visual novel. It had already been nominated, so I just added characters: Sophia, Gloria, The Fairy, and Madame Ghede.
Thank you for your time and effort! Sorry this wasn't ready until now. (Finals time! Finishing with another exchange! But still.)

First, my squicks and and dislikes. Please no rape, dubcon, or torture. Or completely grim stories, though these canons do have grim parts and I’m all right with sadness pervading the fic. I like that; I'd just prefer it to not be relentless and total if you do choose to write sadness. I’d also rather no kinks be present beyond allusions or mentions.

I don't mind AUs or crossovers, or holiday-fic for holidays that are canonical or could plausibly be canonical. Though if it's an AU there would be different rules. Any combination of the characters is cool, or even alone.

I would welcome femslash! Or gen. Or gen that includes either or both of those. Het also! My preference is that m/m slash not be the focus of the story, since I’m not really interested in it.

Fandom prompts:

Black Magician Trilogy - Trudi Canavan )

Everworld Series - K. A. Applegate )

The Pirates of Dark Water )

The Croods )

Kino no Tabi | Kino's Journey )

Princess Tutu )

Thank you again!
Dear Rarewomen Author,

Thank you! I’m excited for this. Here’s what I hope will be a helpful guide and idea-mobile if you need them.

There is canon het--and a little femslash--in some of these, but I would welcome more femslash! Or gen. Or gen that includes either or both of those. Het is also good, as long as the main focus is on the female characters, grounded in their lives and including more of what is in the character than her love for a man.

Onto the fandoms. Where I could, I’ve provided legal links to watch the three shows.

Romeo x Juliet )

Once Upon a Time )

Spellsong Cycle )

Xena: Warrior Princess )

Alliance-Union - C.J. Cherryh )

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you for giving me a story. I hope you will like doing it, and that this letter will be of use. Sorry for the wait in unlocking it!

First, my squicks and and dislikes. Please no rape or torture, unless it’s just alluded to or mentioned – nothing explicit or the focus of the story, please. Or completely grim stories, though these sources do have grim parts. I'd rather the sadness not be relentless and total. Unless it's very, very fitting for the story! Especially as Haunting of Hill House is one of my requests. Gen, het, and femslash are good, but my preference is that m/m slash not be the focus of the story, since I’m not really interested in it.

I don't mind AUs or crossovers, or holiday-fic for holidays that are canonical or could plausibly be canonical. Though if it's an AU there would be different rules as to canonical holidays. Any combination of the characters is cool, or even alone. Now onto fandoms! I read or watched some of these canons more recently than others; those sections of the letter are bigger because I remember more details to make suggestions. Also, some bits are the same as from the letters for previous exchanges. They’re all more fill-in-the-gaps types of prompts than not, but those are just for ideas! I will love other stuff as well.

[livejournal.com profile] lostboy_lj wrote about the Scythe and firefighting in his The Meta Arsenal: Stakes, Fangs and Other Symbolic Weaponry in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. I recommend the whole thing, but had a thought train based on this particular connection. He notes how the characters describe it as an axe, and the fact that it’s red.

The Scythe as a firefighter's axe makes me think of that Restless line, “I’m gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back." Buffy’s dream is of change, Slayers, and her experience being one - she always views it as isolating during the run of the show but fights that anyway, at first just to have friends and something normal in her life; she will be the one with the idea to finally change that isolation, the 'she alone' of the Slayer. Not just for her as the Slayer with friends and family*, but for all future Slayers who will be able to turn to each other.

I mostly talk about the last three seasons, though the theme of what the Slayer is and who Buffy is as the Slayer is of course at the heart of the show from the beginning. )
